Just leaving a comment to say that I read the Brothers Karamazov last year and it changed my life--especially the Russian Monk. I remember reading it hungrily, being like "yeah, this is the truth of the universe right here." It's nice to know other people felt the same way about this particular part of that book.

Yes! Karamazov is truly life changing. Obviously lots of people feel that way but I agree, it’s great to find another fan of book 6 specifically. So far, it’s just been Terrence Malik (Tree of Life director) and I that I was aware of.

Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for sharing this. I have a friend who is very taken with The Tree of Life and I haven’t watched it yet. I will need to bump it up on my list.

I should thank you because when I saw your posts, I was like, "Oh, you can do that??" I love a read-aloud.

Your friend has good taste! The Tree of Life is almost always either loved or hated, very little in between. Obviously, it's clear which I am. So far, I've been unable to find people notice the literary connections in the film (Dostoevsky, Thomas a Kempis, the Bible, etc), whether online or in books, so I look forward to writing about that soon.
